Galactic Symphonies

Stephen John Kalinich & Richard Durrant. An encounter between the spoken word, the guitar and the imagination.

Poetry, guitar and light.

Galactic Symphonies brings Stevie’s spoken poetry together with Richard Durrant’s soundscapes and live guitar improvisations, with projected artwork by Malcolm Buchanan-Dick. Six poems become a meeting of words, music and moving images.

The project was developed in 2007 and released as a CD/DVD at the Brighton Festival Fringe in 2008. The original notes describe a performance filmed at Ropetackle Arts Centre in December 2007.

An afternoon in Brighton.

Writing about the Brighton performance, Michael Kemp recalled the contrast between the power of “Bring In All The Poets” and quieter moments including “The Magic Hand”, “A Tale of Man”, “The Days of Life” and “Listen to the Quiet”. His account captures a performance that moved between intensity, reflection and a shared sense of wonder.
